Amman - Iman Abu Kaoud
Unrest continues to mount in the Southern city of Maan, Jordan after a video showing citizens beheading two of the most wanted people in Jordan circulated social networking sites. Security has been increased in the city following demonstrations protesting the video. Police threw tear gas and opened fire on the crowds, killing two protesters and injuring one who reportedly fired guns back at the officials. Maan citizens have given the Jordanian government 48 hours to investigate the video as the events depicted are contrary to Jordan’s religion, customs and traditions. The family of the wounded person claimed the security forces started the clashes, contrary to what has been reported.  The brother of the injured person stated that the three who were hurt during the skirmishes were left unattended for two hours and were not offered medical aid. A security source told Arabstoday a number of citizens fled the area when the police started shooting – heading towards the mountainous region where the gunmen escaped to. The source added that the gunmen were wearing normal clothing making it difficult for the police to identify them. The security officials were forced to evacuate civilians from the area and shoot the men. The source claimed that they were taken to the nearest hospital.
