2 Algerian coastguards killed in bomb attack

A military official says two members of the Algerian coastguard were killed when a remote-controlled bomb detonated near their barracks. Two others were wounded in the blast Friday in the coastal town of Azzeffoun, in the restive Kayblie region east of the capital Algiers. The official, based 43 miles (70 kilometers) away in the regional capital of Tizi Ouzou, said the blast happened in the same spot where a bomb went off the day before, destroying a bread delivery man's truck. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press. While attacks by the local branch of al-Qaida have all but disappeared in northern Algeria, small attacks against military personnel occur on a regular basis in the mountainous Kabylie region.
