Prof. Omer says IGAD parliaments are working

The Chairman of the National Legsilature, Professor Ibrahim Ahmed Omer has underscored that the parliaments of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) are endeavoring to build a model that serves people of East Africa and contribute to achievement of broad African integration.

He said that Sudan calls for boosting the collective African work and providing idea s that unites vision and pushes African initiatives forward.

Prof. Omer , who was addressing meeting of the Executive Council of IGAD Inter-Parliamentary Union(IPU) in the Friendship Hall, Saturday, said Africa ha scored success in establishment of regional cooperation and integration entities.

He stated that IPU-IGAD bears responsibility of achievement of goals and principles set to achieve unity and solidarity of the African countries, referring to importance of accelerating the political, social and economic integration of the continent.

" United African stances over issues of common concern between the African countries should be made , encouraging African countries to cooperate internationally and boosting peace, security and stability as well as boosting national unity of the African countries" the Chairman of National Legislature added.

He called for necessity of finding effective democratic institutions that guarantee people's participation , boost good governance and protect human rights and public freedoms for people of Africa.

Prof. Omer called for strengthening relations between the legislative institutions to achieve the ultimate goals of the organization, expressing hope that the meeting of the Executive Council puts the vital issues and challenges facing the member states on the agenda , especially those pertinent to security and stability of the region as well as issues of climate and migration.

He explained that IPU was found to help the IGAD, one of the oldest African groupings, stressing that IPU-IGAD has huge responsibility in supporting role being carried out by IGAD to confront challenges facing countries of the region.
