The death of a student named Fatima in central Gaza
Gaza - Muhammad Habib

The death of a student named Fatima in central Gaza Palestinian medical sources have reported the death of a student named Fatima in central Gaza to ArabsToday. The student’s secondary school had announced this morning that she was in the top ten students, when the school’s results were announced this morning. Fatima’s brother accidently killed her as he fired bullets into the air while standing in front of her, in celebration of her results. The sources claim that another person was injured by mistake during the shooting. The relatives of the girl got in touch with ArabsToday to express that the family was in shock after the incident, and that they were devastated not to be able to share the joy of guiding their daughter to obtain the top ten results, when the bullet fired from her brother’s weapon killed her, as he celebrated with her in the centre of Gaza.
The results of secondary schools in both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip for the years 2010-2011were announced this morning by the Ministry of Education in Gaza, and the West Bank. There was an average success rate of 57% this year in all regions. Of the 87,396 students in the West Bank, 50,608 of them passed. The Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, Jihad Zakarneh, said that the Ministry is still pursuing the issue of providing exams for prisoners, and that there are positive signs that it will soon begin to change plans to ensure the development of education, and to promote and advance the standard of education in Palestine.
