Azhar imam receives UNGA president

Al Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed el Tayyeb received here Saturday President of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly Peter Thomson, who arrived in Cairo yesterday on a three-day visit.
Thomson's visit to Egypt is part of his African tour that took him also to Ethiopia and Senegal.
The meeting tackled Al Azhar's role in spreading the upright teachings of Islam along with ways of promoting cooperation between Al Azhar and the UN General Assembly.
The meeting also took up a host of issues of mutual interest.
