Antiquities Minister Khaled El Anani
Cairo - MENA

Antiquities Minister Khaled El Anani chaired on Tuesday the first meeting of the ministerial committee to develop Rosetta city to put it on the global tourism map.

During the meeting, Assistant to the Minister of Antiquities for Archaeological Sites and Director of the Coptic and Islamic monuments sector Mohamed Abdel Latif said in a statement that the committee issued all recommendations to implement it within the next period, which ends the project in the fixed time.

He pointed out that Behira governorate will be responsible for developing the Nile Corniche in Rosetta, widening the old road and finishing the internal streets in the city.

Abdel Latif added that Awqaf Ministry will be responsible for funding for the renovation of the archaeological mosques and removing all the encroachments in their area.

He noted that the Ministries of Environment and Urban Planning will have roles also in the development plan to make Rosetta an open Museum for Islamic art.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Local Development Hisham El Sherif, Behira Governor Nadia Abdo and representatives from the ministries of Tourism, Environment, Culture, Urban Planning and Awqaf.

Another meeting will be held after 15 days in Rosetta with the representatives of the ministries to draw up a work plan and follow up all steps.
