Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) board member and Women Sport Committee chairwoman Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa thanked the Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry for supporting the Bahrain teams at the Arab Women Sports Tournament, to be held in Sharjah in February.

Shaikha Hayat extended her gratitude to Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Hisham Mohammed Al Jowder for his efforts and contributions in providing all that is required by the teams representing Bahrain in this regional event.
She specifically referred to the initiative launched by Al Jowder to allow the importing of expatriate players for the volleyball and basketball teams in accordance to the tournament regulations, in an attempt to prepare both teams for their respective competitions.

"I would like to thank Hisham Al Jowder for his great support to us at this major regional tournament by offering our teams the opportunity to sign up professional players to help their respective teams in their upcoming matches," said Shaikha Hayat.

Shaikha Hayat also thanked Clubs Affairs Director Tareq Al Arabi for his efforts and backing of the administrative delegation, in addition to Youth Centres director Nawar Al Mutawa for continuously following up with teams’ preparations.

She noted that the tournament is the most prestigious Arab women’s sporting event, and is being supported HH Shaikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of HH Shaikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Ruler of Sharjah.

As many as 69 clubs from 17 Arab nations have so far registered to compete in the Fourth Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST) that is scheduled to commence on February 2.

Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, Palestine, Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, Djibouti and hosts the UAE will compete during the 11-day event that will be held at 10 venues in Sharjah.

The fourth edition of tournament will see women compete in nine sports disciplines including basketball, volleyball, table tennis, fencing, archery, shooting, athletics, show jumping, and karate.
