Muscat - Arabstoday

A student delegation from The Sultan’s School recently took part in a twinning conference in Beirut, Lebanon, alongside other Unesco associated schools as part of the United Nations’ commitment to contribute to peace and security through international collaboration in education, science and culture. The central focus of the conference, organised by the Lebanese National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, in co-operation with its Omani counterpart, was to build cultural bridges and create the conditions for dialogue between civilisations. Delegates spanning the Arab and European world were invited to take part, including Denmark, France, Lebanon, Jordan and Germany. Amna al Balushi, National Co-ordinator of Culture and Sciences at the Ministry of Education said, “This conference emphasises the importance of bridging cultural gaps and the promotion of inter-faith and inter-cultural dialogue to foster a positive understanding and appreciation of diversity.” Graeme Garrett, Principal of The Sultan’s School, said: “Our participation is part of our commitment to promote the values of tolerance and acceptance. These principles must be instilled in our younger generation so hopes remain high for a peaceful co-existence of nations now and in the future.” The Sultan’s School representatives held an exhibition to introduce the other delegates to the Omani culture and a collection of local handicrafts, as well as small tokens of appreciation, were given as souvenirs to all participants.
