Sanaa - KUNA

Up to two million Yemeni students are unable to attend school because there are no available seats for them, while 2.5 million children are not attending school at all, minister of education said Sunday. Dr. Abdulrazzaq Al-Ashwal said the ministry suffered severe shortage in technology means as well as lack of interest in taking care of the students with special needs "who need a lot." He said the ministry launched back-to-school campaign, which targetted around two million students and aimed at reminding parents that their children must return to school to get the education they deserve. There are two million children not registered in schools, while six million adults do not know how to write. Around 62 percent of the Yemeni population are illiterate.
