Doha - Arabstoday
Maersk Oil Qatar has taken part in the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) ‘Well and reservoir management workshop’, which concluded in Doha yesterday. As platinum sponsor, Maersk Oil invited ten engineering students from Qatar University and Texas A&M University at Qatar to participate in the three-day workshop, attended by around 100 industry professionals. Sheikh Faisal bin Fahad al-Thani, deputy managing director of Maersk Oil in Qatar and chairman of the Qatar SPE, recalled that working in close partnership with Qatar Petroleum, Maersk Oil successfully unlocked the hidden potential of Al Shaheen Field - Qatar’s largest offshore oil field. “Al Shaheen is a complex and challenging field, and responsible well and reservoir management was, and will remain, of critical importance in optimising recovery from the field. We were therefore pleased to support and contribute to this important industry gathering,” he explained. The workshop included a series of presentations, panel sessions, and discussion forums, allowing experts, researchers, and professional engineers to examine industry challenges and opportunities in well and reservoir management. Jilani Mehak, a Chemical Engineering student at Qatar University and a summer intern at Maersk Oil Qatar noted it was a great learning experience to attend the workshop and find out more about well and reservoir management. “During my internship with Maersk Oil I learned a lot by applying theory in a more practical way, and was exposed to different tasks.”
