Manama - Arabstoday

Kuwait's education ministry has warned expatriate women teachers that they would deport their husbands in case they broke the family visa rules by taking up jobs in the country. Under the visa, the husband is sponsored by his wife and can stay with her in Kuwait, but is not allowed to work. "All expatriate teachers who wish to sponsor their husbands in Kuwait should be aware of the implications of breaking the visa rules," said Mona Al Loghani, the education ministry undersecretary. "The deportation decision will be made in cooperation with the interior ministry and will also result in the non-issuance of any visa or sponsorship for the teacher," she said in a statement, published in the Kuwaiti media on Tuesday. Under Kuwait's laws, all foreigners must have sponsors to be able to enter Kuwait or to take up employment. The education ministry has taken an exceptional move by allowing female teachers to sponsor their husbands "in order to help achieve family stability and help boost their school performance." Most of the Arab teachers in Kuwait are from Egypt, Tunisia, Syria and Jordan.
