Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr Vijay D Patil was recently honoured at the Bond University in Australia. Dr Patil, one of Bond’s first international students, received the prestigious Robert Stable Alumni Medal. Bond Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Tim Brailsford said, “Dr Vijay is one of India’s most influential and successful entrepreneurs, and has driven major advancements and innovation in India’s education, healthcare and sporting sectors. He embodies the qualities of visionary leadership.” Dr Patil, the President of the Padmashree Dr D Y Patil Group at Navi Mumbai, who was also honoured with a Doctorate by the J J T University in Rajasthan, is also a recipient of numerous awards in the field of education, sports and healthcare. He has conceived and established the Dr D Y Patil Hospital and Research Centre, a super-specialty charitable hospital as well as a medical simulation laboratory, the first of its kind in India. Dr Patil, the President of Dr D Y Patil Sports Academy and Stadium, who is dedicated to promoting education in the field of sports, and providing vision care for athletes, is also the Vice President of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). He says, “I was able to witness, first hand, the functioning of an international, private university, which was a massive learning experience for me. Also, to see the synergy between sports and education that exists at Bond, and only at Bond, was a lesson I learnt here and carried forward into my own career. I have always been passionate about sports, particularly cricket, and this passion manifested itself in the development of the sports stadium. For me it was a labour of love. MCA keeps me motivated to contribute on a larger canvas my experience in the cricketing environment and love for the game.” Dr Vijay was humbled on receiving the award and dedicated it to his family and to Bond’s Faculty of Business who invested their time and effort and made education a wonderfully enriching experience.
