London - Arabstoday
The standalone UK edition of digital media site paidContent is to be "phased out" as part of the group's integration with new owner GigaOM, the publisher has announced. Coverage of UK stories will continue, with paidContent UK editor Robert Andrews working with a bigger team "with a broader international reach", ContentNext Media editor Staci Kramer wrote in a post on the site. paidContent will also cease to publish its standalone site on mobile content - mocoNews - on the grounds that convergence has meant that "having a separate site to cover mobile content no longer makes sense". Kramer said work was under way to migrate paidContent to the same publishing platform as GigaOM and that a new site would go live next week. She wrote: "Now that we are part of the larger GigaOM Network, some of our content will be appearing in different places. Both mocoNews and paidContent:UK are being phased out as sites. Rest assured, their content stays. Links are being preserved and all the content is moving over. "paidContent:UK has been an important voice on the transformation of digital content. But there are more stories to be told about Europe, and we're delighted that Robert Andrews, an integral part of that site since its launch, will continue his coverage as part of a bigger team with a broader international reach. We'll reveal more about those plans soon." Guardian News and Media sold paidContent publisher ContextNext Media to GigaOM for an undisclosed sum last month. The newspaper publisher has taken a minority stake in GigaOM as part of the deal. GigaOM was founded in 2006, covering global technology innovation and its impact on business. paidContent was launched by Rafat Ali in 2002 and was sold to the Guardian in 2008.
