His Majesty King Abdullah II said a police attack on journalists during a pro-reform march in Amman on Friday, is unjustified and dose not reflect the policy of the public security which we are proud of its role in maintaining national stability. At a meeting with President the Jordanian Press Association Tareq Momani, the King also voiced his rejection of any practices and restrictions that obstruct work of the press and media outlets, highlighting their role in relaying information to citizens and addressing their issues in an independent, professional, transparent and credible manner. His Majesty, who stressed his confidence in security departments and their role in preserving security and stability and protecting citizens and their property, said that press freedoms in Jordan is maintained, noting that he will direct the government and security bodies to take measures to protect journalists and representatives of the media while covering various social and political events. At the meeting, which was attended by Royal Court Chief Khaled Karaki and the King’s Advisor for Media Affairs and Communications Amjad Adayleh, King Abdullah stressed the need to improve the media performance through training and development programs. “We want an effective and influential media that carries our vision for comprehensive reform and build a better future for all Jordanians,” he said.
