Dubai - Arab today

Despite the grim realities in some parts, thousands of heart-warming stories of hope, humanitarian work and community-building initiatives are currently being harvested from the Arab world, right here in Dubai.

Through crowd-sourcing and social-media driven campaign, the Hope Makers campaign drew more than 65,000 submissions through its

And from April 11 to May 2, 2017, nominations will be collected after which the top 12 would be named.

The initiative was launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, out of his keenness on spreading positivity and opening the doors of hope widely before millions of Arab youth.

On Tuesday, Shaikh Mohammad thanked those who sent their submissions to the initiative

It aims to inspire hope in the Arab region by highlighting heart-warming stories of kindness in communities.

The official website of the initiative has also recorded more than a million visits from around the Arab world and Gulf region and the hashtag #Hope_Makers received a resounding response and took centre stage on social media platforms in the UAE and a number of Arab countries

Besides the submission through its official

many contenders also launched campaigns on their social media platforms calling for and supporting the initiative all over the Arab world — and shared photos and short clips of them about their activities on the website to further support their applications.

Pan-Arab initiative

The largest of its kind initiative, "Hope Makers" falls under the umbrella of the Year of Giving, and is a pan-Arab initiative that aims to recognise and honour outstanding individuals, institutions who harness their potential in the service of the community and make a positive difference in societies.

The goal is to explore inspirational stories, and highlight noble humanitarian programmes, projects and initiatives.

It also aims to introduce and recognise humanitarian programmes and provide necessary financial support for their leaders so that they continue their march.

Hope Makers

Hope Makers is driven by Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s belief that hope, work, positivity and optimism are what the Arab World needs, regardless of how bad the region’s circumstances are.

By highlighting flashes of hope throughout the region and celebrating the men, women and young people who are striving to serve and benefit people and communities, improving living conditions, social care and the quality of life for the people around them.

Hope Makers aims to honour these exceptional individuals, rewarding Hope Makers with recognition and awarding a prize to the winner which has the potential to truly transform initiatives taking place in the fields of volunteerism, education, health, media and social activism.

Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives

The initiative comes in line with the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum that hope, work, positivity and optimism are what the Arab region needs regardless of how bad the circumstances are.

That is through the illuminating flashes of hope spread in the Arab world, of men, women and the youth who are dedicated and working to serve the people and their benefit, and improve their living conditions.

And these hope makers will be honored by enhancing their reputations and financially support the 1st place winner to complete his/her cause and that may be in the field of volunteerism, education, health, media and new media
