Nationals and residents in Oman have flocked to major tourist spots in the country amid the four-day-long holiday for the country’s 46th National Day.

November 23 and 24 were declared holidays for both public and private sectors.

Over 20,000 visitors flocked to the Wadi Diqah Dam, the biggest dam in the country, located in Sharqiyah province, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

Over 1,745 persons visited Oman’s National Museum on Wednesday alone, the highest number of visitors ever recorded since its opening on July 30, said the Oman’s National Museum via its official twitter account.

Ahmad Al Subhi, a Hamra province resident, told Gulf News, that he took his family to the museum to know more about the country ancient history.

“My family enjoyed the visit — especially my kids who participated in a painting workshop allocated for children,” said Al Subhi.

Wadi Bani Khaid, another major attraction in the country, was also packed.

“We spent the whole day swimming and barbecuing,” Mohammad Al Salmi, a Seeb resident said.

In the past two days, the hashtag translated from Arabic ‘My holiday in Oman’, was trending on Twitter, with thousands of people posting pictures and videos of their adventures.

Most hotels were at 100 per cent occupancy, according to an official at the Ministry of Tourism.

Thousands of others flocked to the UAE—many waiting for hours to cross the border and others giving up and turning back due to the massive gridlock
