Former Chairperson of Al Ahly SC Hassan Hamdy decided to travel to Ethiopia, upon an invitation from the African Football Association (CAF) to receive the Golden Medal of Merit, on the sidelines of the general assembly scheduled on 13-17 March. The CAF will honor Hamady in recognition of his achievements with the Red Devils in Africa, being the African champions for five seasons.
The CAF has also sent an official letter to the Egyptian Football Association, noting that it will be the first award of its kind and it will be presented to Hamdy for his history of success.
According to an Egyptian official, the former head of Al Ahly has already strated to prepare his travel papers, ruling out that the Egyptian authorities could oppose his travel.
Hamdy was the 12th and president of the Egyptian Al-Ahly Sporting Club. He was the vice president of the club during Saleh Selim's presidency and the chairman of Al-Ahram advertising agency which is part of the Al-Ahram association and the president of the International Advertising Association (IAA)'s Cairo branch.
After the death of Saleh Selim on May 6, 2002, Hassan Hamdi submitted a nomination for the presidency. The club members renewed their confidence in Hasan Hamdi in the elections of December 17, 2004. This was announced by the overwhelming support for Hamdi and the full list of the club's leadership of the new electoral witness celebrate National occasion of the centenary of the foundation.
