Abu dhabi - WAM

The UAE’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) hosted a workshop in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to train national stakeholders in developing and conducting computer security assessment programmes at nuclear facilities.

The workshop entitled 'National Workshop on Conducting Computer Security Assessments at Nuclear Facilities' was attended by officials from UAE organisations including the National Electronic Security Authority, the UAE Armed Forces, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defence and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation.

IAEA officials discussed how to identify threats and risks associated with information and computer usage. Attendees learnt about international best practices in the nuclear industry on conducting site assessments of computer security. They also learnt how to establish a process to conduct periodic computer security assessments at nuclear facilities.

''We are pleased to host this workshop as computer security is an integral element of nuclear security,'' said Ian Grant, Deputy Director General for Operations at FANR. ''We appreciate the IAEA’s support and the commitment of the UAE stakeholders to participate in this workshop.''
