The Supreme Committee for Strategic Planning and Corporate Development at the Roads and Transport Authority, RTA, chaired by Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, has approved RTA’s revised Strategic Plan 2017-2021.

The revision covered RTA’s mission of developing and managing integrated and sustainable roads and transit systems at excellent standards; delivering pioneering services to bring happiness to targeted audiences; supporting Dubai’s vision through shaping the future and developing policies and legislation; keeping abreast of technologies and innovations, and implementing top global practices and standards. Revisions also covered some strategic objectives to realign them with the Dubai government’s drive.

Speaking about the strategic plan, Al Tayer said, "Updating the strategic goals of RTA is in line with the directives of Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, and H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Deputy Chairman of Dubai Executive Council. Such directives focus on shaping the future and making Dubai a global capital of the future that ranks ten years ahead of other cities, 10X Initiative, through developing cracking services contributing to people’s happiness. The revised strategic plan is also compliant with the UAE National Agenda as well as the Dubai 2021 Plan.

"RTA’s strategic goals have been reclassified into three core drivers. The first relates to the community and encompasses three goals. The first is ‘Smart Dubai,’ which aims to enhance the pioneering role of information management as part of a comprehensive digital experience, besides developing smart solutions for transport, roads and traffic. The second is ‘Integrated Dubai’ through which the RTA will be seeking to step up the integration between mobility and urban planning, make roads and transit systems friendly to all, and enhance the social responsibility practices. The third is ‘People Happiness,’ where the RTA intends to play a pioneering role in people’s happiness and ensuring harmonious attitudes to customers," A; Tayer explained.

He went on to say that the second key driver relates to transit systems and encompasses two strategic goals. "The first is ‘Smooth Mobility for All’ and can be achieved through promoting pool and mass transportation, improving a sustainable roads and transit network, managing the requirements of transport and traffic congestion, and developing effective policies and legislation for transportation, roads and traffic. The second one is ‘Safety and Environmental Sustainability'. It covers improving the safety of transport and traffic, and curbing accidents and fatalities as well as enhancing the environmental sustainability of transport, occupational health and safety, and security," he added.

"The third key driver relates to internal efficiency and covers three strategic goals. The first is ‘Financial Sustainability’ through which the RTA seeks to promote and diversify revenues, boost public-private partnership, and improve financial efficiency. The second is ‘RTA Excellence’ through which the RTA seeks to attract, qualify and retain talents, enhance excellence and knowledge management, improve corporate systems and governance, take a leading role in innovation and future shaping, and cement the relationship with partners and suppliers. The third is ‘Asset Sustainability’ through improving the efficiency of asset management, optimising asset performance and maximising asset value," Al Tayer concluded.
