Unidentified militants on Thursday attacked a site of a Turkish construction company in southeastern Libya and abducted five guards, a senior municipal official said.

The guards were kidnapped in Marada city and were taken to unknown place, the official said.

The official added that the guards are civilians and do not belong to any security or military body.

They had been tasked by the municipal council to protect the company's staff, he said.

Meanwhile, security sources said that the militants who kidnapped the guards are suspected to be Daesh members.
