UAE Embassy in Amman organises meeting Global Coalition against Daesh
Amman - Arab Today

The Jordanian capital, Amman, was the venue yesterday to a meeting of the Global Coalition against Daesh, co-chaired by the UAE and Germany, with the participation of about 100 representatives from 32 countries and organisations.

The meeting was organised by the UAE Embassy in Amman in cooperation with a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Development Affairs, praised Jordan for hosting such an important meeting, which, it said, reflects its efforts to support stability and peace in the region.

He re-affirmed the continuous coordination between the UAE and all countries and international organisations in combating terrorism and extremism and promoting stability projects in liberated areas.

Al Shamsi pointed out that the country has provided US$60 million to the United Nations Development Programme to implement stabilisation projects in the liberated areas in Iraq. He explained that the UAE assistance has reached $250 million over the past three years to displaced Iraqis.

During the meeting, participants discussed the coalition's efforts to fight Daesh, especially after the liberation of the Iraqi city of Mosul and the Syrian city of Raqqa from the terrorism group.

The Global Coalition against Daesh was formed in September 2014, and is committed to degrading and ultimately defeating Daesh. The coalition’s 73 members are committed to tackling Daesh on all fronts, to dismantling its networks and countering its global ambitions.
