Moscow - Arab Today

The Russian Defense Ministry considered Pentagon’s recent statements that Daesh still exists in Syria as an artificial pretext to justify the illegitimate presence of U.S. military forces in the country.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman, Igor Konashenkov, stated Wednesday that the expansion of Daesh terrorist organization in Iraq and Syria happened amid complete silence and ignorance from Washington.

He indicated to the key role of Russia’s military campaign against terrorism which contributed to achieving stability in Syria and eradicating Daesh.

Konashenkov added that Daesh could have existed today but in Iraq which is under direct supervision of the US, calling upon Washington to respect Syrian’s sovereignty and international law.

On Wednesday, Russian President, Vladimir Putin, said: “a complete victory had been achieved over Daesh terrorists on both banks of the Euphrates river in Syria
