Arab Today, arab today ILO official to MENA: We work with Egypt to reduce negative impacts of illegal immigration

International Labor Organization
Cairo - Arab Today

Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Africa at the International Labor Organization (ILO) Aeneas C. Chuma said that ILO is working with the Egyptian government to diminish the negative impact of illegal immigration.

Chuma is currently visiting Egypt to attend Africa Regional Training Course on Labor and Social Policies for Decent Work, organized by the ILO in Cairo.

The main objective of the course is to enhance the capacity of participants to contribute to labor and social policy development at the national, regional and international levels.

In an interview with MENA on Tuesday, the ILO official said that he had talks with Manpower Minister Mohamed Safan and Social Solidarity Minister Ghada Wali and other senior officials on the anti-illegal immigration bill and initiatives taken by Egypt in the labor and employment areas.

The problem of illegal immigration is not limited to Egypt, it also involves other African countries, Chuma said, adding that from 9 to 10 million Africans are living and working in a country other than their homeland.

He further pointed out to the positive role played by migrants who contribute to the enhancement of the economy of the developed countries, including the United States.

Asked about the ILO's priorities in Africa, he said that the ILO has given priority to creating more jobs in the African continent and ensuring that the economic growth would help increase job openings.
