French government's on Wednesday condemned rising violence against riot police in street protests, most of which are against a proposal to reform the labor code, the government spokesman Stephane Le Foll said.

Earlier in the day, four police officers were slightly injured while trying to clear a school building which was occupied by a group of immigrants.

A day before, seven riot police officers were injured in clashes with masked youths in the western French city of Nantes.

"This is totally unacceptable, with 300 police hurt since the start of the year. We will not let this pass without a response," Le Foll said.

"The police is trying to protect the demonstrators and the right to protest. Those who lend themselves to violent actions against the police are totally irresponsible," he added.
