Dublin - Arab Today

Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) has discussed with an Irish official ways to enhance co-operation in political, parliamentary, cultural and education fields between the two countries, with an emphasis on sharing expertise in areas of priority for the two parties.

Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council, FNC, and her delegation, met with Regina Doherty, Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach (Government Chief Whip).

The FNC delegation included Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Zaabi, Second Deputy Speaker of the FNC, Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Mahrazi, Dr. Saeed Abdullah Al Mutawa, Azza Sulaiman bin Suleiman, Saeed Saleh Al Rumaithi, Hamad bin Ghulaita Al Ghafli, and Dr. Saeed Mohammed Ali Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Ireland.

The Irish official welcomed the FNC delegation and stressed the importance of reinforcing good relations between the two parties. She praised the UAE leadership’s vision in various fields, particularly those related to women’s empowerment and other initiatives that have earned international praise.

"The UAE deals wisely with the issues and challenges in the Middle East and the world," she said, referring to the importance of education in building a culture of tolerance.

Doherty referred to the depth of co-operation, friendship and partnership between the UAE and the Republic of Ireland, especially in the fields of education, trade, ports and tourism. The UAE's hosting of nearly 200 nationalities reflects tolerance, co-existence, openness and communication with various countries, she added.

Dr. Al Qubaisi said such meetings help bolster relations between the two parties. She called for concerted bilateral and international action to eradicate terrorism by liquidating its sources.

The FNC Speaker reiterated the UAE's legitimate demand for settling the issue of the three UAE islands: Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Mousa, occupied by Iran, through either an amicable approach or by resorting to the International Court of Justice.

Both parties hailed the trade and economic ties between the UAE and Ireland, and the importance of expanding the volume of trade exchange.
