Pasuruan, E Java - Arab Today

Vice President M Jusuf Kalla is on a one-day working visit to Pasuruan District, East Java Province, on Thursday to inaugurate a clean water management system project.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution and Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono accompany the Vice President during the working visit.

Kalla was greeted by East Java Governor Soekarwo upon arrival at Juanda Airport in Surabaya, the provincial capital of East Java.

The inauguration of the clean water management system project held in Umbulan Village.

The project built using a viability gap fund scheme, will supply clean water at a capacity of four thousand liters per second, to five regional clean water supply companies (PDAM) respectively located in Surabaya, Pasuruan District, Pasuruan City, Sidoarjo, and Gresik.

The water supply will use 93.7 km-long transmission network from Umbulan water springs to the companies.

The project is expected to be able to supply clean water to some 1.3 million people.

Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world and Southeast Asia's largest economy, with 255 million inhabitants.

Average income levels have increased dramatically over the last 20 years, yet more than 33 million Indonesians lack safe water, and 100 million lack access to improved sanitation facilities.
