Moscow - Arab today

Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to carry out a state visit to the State of Palestine and conduct official talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The Palestinian Ambassador in the Federal Republic of Russia Fayed Mustafa told the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) that this visit comes as part of a Middle East tour by President Putin which includes in addition to Palestine, both Jordan and Israel.

The Palestinian ambassador in Moscow cited the significance of President Putin's upcoming visit to Palestine in view of the historic bilateral bonds between Russia and Palestine, pointing out that political issues pertaining to the peace process shall be explored between President Abbas and President Putin in Bethlehem City on June 26th especially as Russia plays a significant role in its capacity as a member of the International Quartet and a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

The ambassador pointed out that both presidents shall inaugurate the newly-constructed premises of the Russian Cultural Center in Bethlehem which shall have its important future role in boosting bilateral cultural relations between the two friendly countries.

This is President Putin's second visit to Palestine after his first to Ramallah and the meeting he had with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in 2005.
