A new video-based system has been launched to question prisoners remotely without transferring them to another location, officials announced.

The Public Prosecution has launched the new system on May 14th, in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police.

Prosecutor General Hussein bin Ali Al Hilali inaugurated the launch. The President of the Court of Appeals in Seeb, Judge Said bin Saleh Al Habsi and the Commander of the Police in Muscat, Brigadier Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Sayari were also in attendance, along with a number of judges and police officers.

"The system will save time and effort, as well as reduce expenses with regard to prisoner escorts and transportation," officials said. The system will also allow for the extension of prisoner sentences without the need for the prisoner's direct presence.

"This launch comes within the framework of the e-government expansion plan sought by Public Prosecution, and hopes to enhance technological capabilities in Public Prosecution facilities, in order to ensure high quality performance, and simplify procedures," an official statement added.
