The Marrakech Court of Appeals has sentenced Former Mayor of Marrakech, Omar Jazouli, to a one year prison term and a fine for Dilapidation of Public Funds and he tforgery of official documents.

Former city council president, Omar Jazouli, was secntenced Thursday by the Marrakech Court of Appeals. The one year suspended prison term is accompanied by a fine of MAD 20,000 for squandering public funds and falsifying official documents.


 
According to French-speaking news source, LeDaily.ma, the court gave the same sentence to a communal official and former head of economic and social division for the communal council involved in this case. Other individuals involved in the case were ultimately cleared by the court of any wrongdoing.

The Attorney General of the Court of Appeal in the same city prosecuted the former mayor of Marrakech, his first vice-president as well as three other officials at the municipal council for Marrakech for squandering public money, falsifying official documents and obtaining privileges from an institution they were in charge of managing.

Omar Jazouli has been a Moroccan politician and Member of Parliament since 1977. He served as Chairman of the Local Elected Representatives of the Constitutional Union party (UC) since 2003 and occupied the position of Mayor of the city of Marrakech for 6 years.
