Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, participated in the 150th ordinary session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, which was held today, at the Arab League’s headquarters in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt.

The Council of the Arab League passed a resolution condemning the continuing Iranian interference in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Iran’s support for terrorism, training of terrorists, smuggling of weapons and explosives, stirring up sectarian strife, and its continued statements at various levels to undermine security, order, and stability, in addition to establishing terrorist groups in the Kingdom of Bahrain, that are funded by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and its terrorist affiliates “Asa’ib Ahl al Haq” and Hezbollah. The resolution also stressed supporting the Kingdom of Bahrain in all its measures to fight terrorism and the terrorist groups in order to maintain its security and stability.

The Council welcomes designating members of the so-called “Al-Ashtar Bridges” in the Kingdom of Bahrain as terrorists, stressing that this stance reflects the determination of world countries to fight all forms of terrorism at the regional and international levels and those who support it, incite it or sympathize with it. This stance also supports the measures and efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain to enhance its security, stability, and peace.

The Council further affirmed its support to a number of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s candidacies for several posts at the United Nations and its specialized agencies, namely the membership for the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs of the Economic and Social Council for the period 2020-2030, membership of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law for the period 2020-2025, membership of the Economic and Social Council for the period 2021-2023, and for membership of the Executive Board of the United Nations Children's Fund for the period 2020-2022.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance joint Arab action, follow up the developments of the Palestinian crisis and the Arab-Israeli conflict, and activate the Arab peace initiative.

They discussed the latest developments in Syria and the importance of not intervening in the internal affairs of Syria. The meeting also discussed the latest developments in Libya, Yemen, Sudan, and other issues.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, also participated in a special meeting attended by Arab foreign ministers on UNRWA status, on the sidelines of the 150th ordinary session of the Arab League at the ministerial level.

During the meeting, the Arab countries affirmed their positions to support the central and developmental role played by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) which for few years has been facing a severe financial that has recently worsened.

They also expressed their hope of supporting UNRWA in the best possible way to overcome these issues and continue their humanitarian role.

They also issued a statement in which the Arab ministers stressed the need for UNRWA to continue playing its central role in meeting the humanitarian needs of the Palestinian refugees as it is mandated by the United Nations.
