Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, Dr. Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza
Manama - Arab Today

Following the directives of the Government Executive Committee, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, Bahrain is set to develop a 100 megawatt solar power plant in collaboration with the private sector.

Companies can take part in the development of this project by submitting their proposals during the tender process, which begins in February 2018. The project is set to begin operations by the end of next year.

In 2016, the government introduced the National Energy Efficiency Plan and the National Renewable Energy Plan, with the aim to provide 5 per cent of the country’s electricity consumption using renewable energy and resources. This goal, which is expected to be fulfilled in 2025, will drive a wide range of energy and power initiatives across the Kingdom.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, Dr. Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza, highlighted the government’s commitment to accelerating development across the energy sector, under the leadership of HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister.

The Minister also highlighted the role of the Government Executive Committee, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, in facilitating investment within the renewable energy sector.

The Minister concluded by noting the positive impact of technological breakthroughs in reducing the cost of production for solar panels and energy-saving-devices.
