DEWA forms committee to follow up on implementing order
Dubai - WAM

A committee, headed by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, has been formed to follow up on implementing the order of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which requires real estate developers, companies and other relevant stakeholders to install back-up power generators at major projects in Dubai.

DEWA has sent a circular requiring the installation of these power generators in major buildings and landmarks such as tourist, commercial and cultural buildings in Dubai. This is to ensure that they will have the necessary power in emergencies for public security and safety reasons, while also ensuring the comfort and well-being of society and the public at large.

The circular states that the capacity of the generators should be sufficient to cover lighting, elevators, escalators, automatic doors, surveillance cameras, alarm systems and fire and safety equipment.

These generators must be properly maintained to ensure that they will work when needed in an effective and timely manner, according to best safety practices.

"I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for his unlimited support, constant follow up, wise directives and insightful vision. His Highness always motivates us to continue our leadership and excellence and to anticipate and shape the future of strategic sectors, according to a clear approach based on innovation, research and development. We value the decision made by His Highness to require real estate developers and companies to install back-up generators in major projects in Dubai. This important decision will benefit all stakeholders, as it will help avoid electricity interruptions that might occur due to any malfunctions in major developments and tourist, commercial, and cultural buildings, ensuring that work is not interrupted at these buildings," Al Tayer said.
