H.H. Shaikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi
London - BNA

H.H. Shaikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has launched the English version of his book "The Tale of the City," which sheds lights on the arrival of the British and the fall of Constantinople.
After signing the English version of the book, Shaikh Sultan said that the English, French, Dutch, and the Portuguese came to this region after the fall of Constantinople.
That was the beginning, and there was an order not to deal with the Ottoman Empire, so the traders began to search for alternative ways to reach India, the Ruler of Sharjah added.
Shaikh Sultan was speaking during the ceremony in London, according to UAE News Agency (WAM).
The British formed the East India Company, to compete with the Dutch occupation of Indonesia, and through that company, the first commercial shipment entered the Gulf, he noted.
He added, "In this book, I want to focus on Chapter V, to show what happened in that period." He will issue another book titled "Sharjah between Protection and Colonialism" during the next edition of Sharjah International Book Fair.
The event was attended by Shaikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Founder and CEO of Kalimat Group, and several intellectuals and publishers, WAM reported.
