Doha - ArabToday

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated Tuesday in Sports Day at the Diplomatic Club, under the auspices of HE the Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, HE Secretary-General of the Foreign Ministry Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, directors of the ministry's different authorities, and members of diplomatic missions in Qatar took part in the event.
Today's program saw a host of sporting, social and cultural events that were popular among the participants and their families.
HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs gave a speech to mark the occasion and said that the policy of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani adopted sports as one of the tools of foreign policy and a pillar of diplomacy that brings Qatari people closer to different peoples across the globe.
His Excellency added that recognizing this day as a sports day came to complement Qatar National Vision 2030, which seeks to have a mentally and physically-healthy society capable of contributing to sustainable development.
HE Al Muraikhi said that they want citizens to be healthy and that's why the ministry celebrates sports day every year. His Excellency highlighted that sports is one of public diplomacy's most crucial tools, which now complements the work done by official diplomacy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organizes a sports day event every year in a bid to promote sports as a key part of an individual and societies life. Sports also play a big role in strengthening social ties between all members of the ministry and officials in diplomatic missions.
