Abu dhabi - WAM

A team from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, ADFD, was recently in Morocco to inspect progress of projects funded by the Abu Dhabi government institution to drive development in the country's key sectors.

The team's visit took place within the framework of the 2013 UAE government grant contribution of AED4.6 billion to the Gulf Development Fund, a programme to finance development projects in Morocco over a five-year period.

These includes projects at Casablanca Port, Kharroub Dam, Al-Muhammadiyah, a college in Tangier, a high-speed train, infrastructure projects in Asilah city, a university hospital and others.

Many of the ADFD-funded projects are in their final stages of completion. Al-Muhammadiyah Port and the Casablanca Port are 95 and 82 percent complete, respectively.

ADFD's support for development in Morocco is part of the UAE-Morocco strong relations driven by the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.M King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

A technical delegation from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development visited Morocco recently to inspect progress of the projects including the Mohammed VI University Hospital project, located in the city of Marrakesh, for which the ADFD contributed $65 million.

The 916-bed state-of-the-art multi-speciality hospital is 75 per cent complete and is expected to open by the end of this year.

Asilah City is home to the Asilah Museum project, now 85 per cent complete, which features a cultural centre planned to attract more tourists.

The ADFD contributed around $140 million to the high-speed train project, now 75 percent complete, and is expected to be launched in December
