The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that eight people were killed and scores others injured in a blast of an explosive device in Damascus countryside Sunday.

The bomb was planted in a motorcycle and went off in front of a hotel near a Shiite holy place, the head of the observatory said.

Another bomb was defused in the same area, he said.
