An official was killed and at least six other people, including an officer, were injured in separate attacks in the northern Iraqi provinces of Kirkuk and Nineveh on Monday. Unidentified gunmen in a civilian car opened fire on members of the local council Habis Naji Al-Obeidi and Abdel-Elah Mohammed Al-Obeidi, killing Abdull-Elah on the spot and wounding Naji in Riyadh district, western Kirkuk, Iraqi police told KUNA. Meanwhile, an explosive device that was planted on the side of the road in the neighborhood of Sumer, southeast of Mosul, exploded, targeting an army patrol, injured an officer and another passenger, a police source in Nineveh province told KUNA. The source added that another roadside bomb in Qabr Al-Abd, south of Mosul, exploded when the convoy of Colonel Khaled Al-Hamdani, director of regiments in the Nineveh police drove by, noting that the colonel was not in it. A similar bomb exploded, targeting a Federal Police patrol near Al-Shoura, southern Mosul, injuring two passengers.
