Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki, Wednesday, paid a visit to the fishing port of El Ketef in Ben Guerdane (Governorate of Medenine) where extension works are in progress with a budget estimated at 5 million dinars. Works involve the dredging and widening of the entrance to the basin, the development of floating docks and slipways, the lighting of outdoor spaces and the rehabilitation of old docks. The President was briefed on activities in this fishing port whose annual production reaches one thousand tons. Marzouki learnt about the concerns of fishermen who claim, among others, the construction of a village near the port (project planned since 1988) and a packaging unit of molluscs. Fishermen also claimed licensing boat building and resolving problems related to territorial waters. President Marzouki went to the border crossing under the coastguard in Djerba which covers territorial and continental waters as well as the maritime public domain in the  governorate of Medenine. According to data presented by the head of the maritime sector on border protection, 6 illegal emigration attempts involving 94 people were thwarted in 2013 and 148 wanted individuals were arrested.
