Jordan’s vegetables and fruit exports in the first six months of this year stood at 397,000 tons, including 345,000 tons of vegetables and 52,000 tons of fruit. Assistant Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture for Marketing Salah Tarawneh said 50 percent of the exports were to the Arab Gulf markets, 21 percent to Syria and Lebanon and 12.7 percent to Iraq and other countries. Tarawneh added in a press statement today that exports during the first six months of this year plunged by 23.5 percent compared to the same period in 2012 due to a decline in exports to Syria and Iraq during the April-June period.
