After a forced hiatus due to the civil war in Libya, Italian telecom systems company Sirti SpA has resumed work on a long-distance fiber-optic network, a communique made known on Wednesday. The event was celebrated by Libyan Minister for Communications and Information Technology Anwar Elfeitori, Italian Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, and Sirti Managing Director Stefano Lorenzo. The 50-million-euro contract is being fulfilled by Sirt, a joint venture between Sirti (55%) and Libyan company Lptic (45%). \"Sirt will shortly restore the fiber-optic telecommunications network that was built in the last three years and damaged during the recent civil war, and will also shortly begin building the rest of the network,\" the communique said.
