Tokyo stocks closed 0.94 percent higher in the morning session of Wednesday, with market sentiment lifted after Wall Street extended gains for a fourth straight day. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 138.19 points from Monday to 14,856.53. Japanese financial markets were closed Tuesday for a national holiday. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 18.91 points, or 1.57 percent, to 1, 223.19. A wide range of sectors moved higher, including rubber, insurance and nonferrous metal shares particularly strong.
