Tokyo shares opened higher Friday on hopes for a decline in fuel costs after the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) maintained its production targets.
At 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 128.60 points, or 0.75 percent, higher from Thursday to 17, 377.10.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 10.53 points, or 0.76 percent, at 1, 402.43.
