Tokyo shares

Tokyo issues ended higher on Monday on upbeat domestic earnings reports that boosted investors' optimistic sentiment over Japan's economic outlook.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 84.13 points, or 0.41 percent, from Friday at 20,808.69.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 12.10 points, or 0.72 percent, to end at 1,691.29, the highest end level since July 31, 2007.

Gainers were led by textiles and apparel, pulp and paper, and other products.

The turnover was about 2,657.9 billion yen (about 21.37 billion U.S. dollars).
