Tokyo shares ended the morning session higher on Monday as sentiment here was boosted by a buoyant U.S. market on Friday on an upbeat U.S. job data, as well as the yen's retreat on Monday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 203.89 points, or 1.30 percent, from Friday to end the morning session at 15,912.54.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 17.17 points, or 1.34 percent, to 1, 299.71.
Gainers were led by consumer finance, rubber products and automaker issues.
