Tokyo shares

Tokyo shares closed higher by midday on a weaker yen and a decision by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to maintain its production targets.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 158.39 points, or 0. 92 percent, from Thursday to 17,406.89.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 12.43 points, or 0.89 percent, at 1, 404.33.
Gainers were led by airline, shipping and rubber shares, while mining, oil and coal issues lost ground.
