Tokyo shares opened lower Wednesday on the yen's advance and an overnight poor performance in the U.S. market.
At 9: 15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 78.82 points, or 0.51 percent, from Tuesday to 15,235.59.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 8.49 points, or 0.67 percent, to 1, 267.21.
