The Qatar Exchange ended the year with an advance of 97.38 points (1.12%), closing at 8,779 points on Thursday\'s last trading session of 2011.The trading value of QR 83,517,620,360.40 this year represents an increase by 24.31% compared to QR 67,185,287,876.70 in 2010. The trading volume was 2,302,779,616 shares, an increase by 9.95% compared to 2,094,391,542 shares while the number of transactions 1,119,101 was up by 6.34% compared to 1,052,392 transactions the previous year. Market capitalization was QR 457,351,564,262.52 an increase by 1.87% compared to QR 448,937,504,408.80 at the end of previous year. The services sector led the traded value this year accounting for 41.7% of the total. Banking and financial sector accounted for 40.13%. Industrial sector accounted for 16.55% and insurance sector accounted for 1.51%. The services sector led the traded volume this year accounting for 55.88% of the total. Banking and financial accounted for 33.67%. The industrial sector accounted for 9.47% and the insurance sector accounted for 0.98%. The services sector topped the number of traded transactions this year accounting for 46.61% of the total. Banking and financial sector accounted for 36.57%. The industrial sector accounted for 14.76% and the insurance sector accounted for 2.06%. From the 43 listed companies on the bourse, 16 ended 2011 higher while 26 fell and one company remained unchanged.  Masraf Al Rayan led the traded value during in 2011 with 12.85% of the total traded value. Industries Qatar accounted for 12.53% and Barwa Real Estate ranked third accounted for 9.59%.
