Nikkei stock ended 1.48 percent lower Friday. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average closed down 218.59 points from Thursday at 14,589.91. It moved between a low of 14,413.28 and a high of 14,953.29. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 10.03 points, or 0.82 percent, at 1, 211.98. Decliners included nonferrous metals, fishery and forestry, and glass makers, while gainers included consumer finance, oil and miscellaneous products. The turnover was about 3,108.2 billion yen (about 31.08 billion U.S. dollars).
