Nikkei ended 0.46 percent lower Friday as investors sought to lock in sharp gains. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 64.02 points from Thursday at 13,485.14. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 1.28 points, or 0.11 percent, higher at 1,148.57. Decliners included consumer finance, miscellaneous products and warehouse shares, while gainers included utilities, sea transporters and realtors. The turnover was about 3,659.6 billion yen (about 36.80 billion U.S. dollars).
