Nikkei closed 0.93 percent lower on strong yen on Monday. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 81.16 points, or 0.93 percent, to the day\'s low of 8,676.44, ending below 8,700 for the first time since Oct. 15. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 8.16 points, or 1.12 percent, to 722.58. Decliners included rubber products makers, insurers and real estate developers. Gainers were the airline and sea transport sectors. The turnover was about 749.0 billion yen (about 9.42 billion U. S. dollars).
